A woman's nipple may be too prominent or stick out too far because of natural growth or from breast feeding. This nipple prominence can be both a functional and an aesthetic concern. The prominent or stretched nipple can be reduced in size and prominence by surgical revision. The surgery can be performed under local anesthesia or during another breast surgical operation such as breast implants, breast lift, or breast reduction. Sensation and function will usually be retained.

This 35 year old woman was concerned about a prominent nipple which struck out too far after breast feeding three children. At the time of having breast implant augmentation enlargement she had the nipples reduced in prominence so they did not stick out so far. Sensation and nipple function was retained. She is shown in before and after pictures. The amount or extent of nipple reduction inversion can be decided on by the patient.
