Dr. Gallico provides several different types of Tummy Tuck or Abdominoplasty depending on the needs and desires of the patient. No two patients are the same, and Dr. Gallico will tailor your new abdomen according to your wishes and your current state. There are five different 'tummy tuck' operations. Some people have extra skin from multiple pregnancies; some people have gained or lost weight; some people have a C section scar which creates an overhang and some people have extra tissue circumferentially all around their waistline and need to have front and back removal. Each patient is an individual and requires a different type of abdominoplasty or tummy tuck. Dr. Gallico will work with you to attain as close as possible the abdominal contour you desire by choosing the type od abdominoplasty which i right for your body. .

This 26 year old patient had several pregnancies and gained a few extra pounds with each one. The skin of the abdomen was also stretched out by the pregnancies and did not return to it's normal shape and tightness. Abdominoplasty with an incision through the belly button and tightening of the abdominal muscles provided a restoration of the previous normal abdominal contour. She also underwent liposuction of the posterior flanks to decrease the waistline.

 

Dr. Gallico's Different Abdominoplasty Surgical Procedures:

Depending on the current appearance of your abdomen (tummy), there are several different types of abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) which will improve its appearance.

Each patient requires a different surgical procedure depending on what the abdomen looks like now. Make sure your Plastic Surgeon does all five procedures and can help you choose the one that's best for you.

1. TRADITIONAL MID-ABDOMINAL ABDOMINOPLASTY

This abdominoplasty, is just right for the patient who has gained (and possibly lost) some weight. The incision is made in the lower abdomen and up to the umbilicus (belly button). The incision goes around the umbilicus (belly button) and leaves it in its original position. The muscles (diastases recti) are sewn back close together to tighten them. The upper abdominal skin is then brought down toward the pubic hair and closed with a final scar across the lower abdomen (fairly well concealed in most clothing). This procedure works best for the person who has enough extra skin to leave the scar as low as possible. This abdominoplasty is also frequently part of a 'mommy makeover'.

 

 

TRADITIONAL MID-ABDOMINAL ABDOMINOPLASTY

This 36 year old mother of three had been stretched by pregnancies and weight gain. The distribution of extras skin and fat made the traditional abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) just right for her. She had enough extra skin to allow the scar to be placed low on her abdomen and concealed under most clothing. Her umbilicus (belly button) has been left in the original position with a scar inside of it, much improving the appearance of her umbilicus (belly button).

TRADITIONAL MID-ABDOMINAL ABDOMINOPLASTY

The same patient is seen from the side in before and after pictures. Her muscles have been tightened and the excess skin and fat removed.

2. LOW SCAR ABDOMINOPLASTY (TUMMY TUCK) - MOMMY MAKEOVER

This abdominoplasty is ideally suited to the middle-aged mother who has been stretched out by pregnancy, but is not markedly overweight. She has a lot of excess skin, but does not have so much excess that The Traditional Abdominoplasty would result in a low enough scar to be concealed well in clothing. Dr. Gallico has developed a new operation for this person to tighten the abdominal skin and muscles and leave a very low scar. This abdominoplasty is also frequently part of a 'mommy makeover'.

LOW SCAR ABDOMINOPLASTY (TUMMY TUCK) - MOMMY MAKEOVER

This 38 year old mother of three had a low scar abdominoplasty with tightening of the abdominal muscles and removal of excess fat and skin. (A traditional abdominoplasty would have left a scar which was much higher and would not have been hidden in her untanned skin.

LOW SCAR ABDOMINOPLASTY (TUMMY TUCK) - MOMMY MAKEOVER

The same patient is shown in before and after pictures demonstrating the tightening of the abdominal muscles and the removal of excess fat and skin. The umbilicus (belly button) has been moved down a bit to tighten and flatten the upper abdomen.

3. MINI ABDOMINOPLASTY

This type of abdominoplasty is just right for the patient who only has a small excess of skin and fat. This abdominoplasty is also an ideal solution for the patient who has an indented or overhanging C-section (Caesarean Section) scar. The key to getting an excellent result in the mini abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) is to extend the scar all the way out to the side to get the abdomen perfectly flat. This abdominoplasty is also frequently part of a mommy makeover. MINI ABDOMINOPLASTY

This 43 year old mother of two had a deep, overhanging C-section (Caesarean Section) scar which was improved by a mini abdominoplasty. The incision and scar were carried out to the hips to assure complete removal and a flat abdomen. She had liposuction liposculpture of both hips and the upper buttocks (love handles) at the same time to improve the waistline front and back.

In a mini abdominoplasty the excess skin and fat hanging over the C-section (Caesarean Section) scar is removed at surgery completely without changing the position or appearance of the umbilicus (belly button). The surgery can be performed under local or general anesthesia.
